What to include
The UK National Careers Service lists the name of the qualification, the school, college or university, and the dates you attended.
- Qualification (e.g. B.S. Biology, A levels, diploma)
- School name and city
- Dates or graduation year
- Optional: honours, relevant courses, a strong GPA if early in your career
Where it goes
Early in your career, put education right after your summary. With more work experience, move it below work history, as the National Careers Service suggests.
Examples for common cases
Finished degree: "B.A. Psychology, Example State University, 2023"
Still studying: "B.S. Nursing, Example University, expected May 2027"
Didn't finish: "Coursework toward B.S. Business, Example College, 2019 – 2021 (60 credits)"
High school: "High School Diploma, Springfield High School, 2024"
All examples are made-up. Never list a degree you didn't complete as finished.
Tips
- Once you have a degree, high school is usually dropped.
- Put licences and certificates in their own section; see certifications.
- UK applicants often list grades (e.g. A level subjects). US and Canadian resumes rarely do past college.
